Tiny Prayers to
Father Time

These photos were taken in my Grandfather's house at Easter 2006. My Grandad, aged 92, had been living on his own for the previous eight years and led a very independent life for a man of his age. Our family lived next door to him for most of my life so I saw my Grandad very often and the house was very familiar to me. I was hoping to spend some time with him and do a “Day in the Life” type project but in early March he suffered a stroke and it was obvious that he would not return home after his hospital treatment.

I visited the house and saw that nothing had been moved since my Grandad went into hospital. I wanted to capture his surroundings and to let them show a little bit about him as I believe you can tell something (though not everything) by the environment someone lives in and possessions that they hold dear. I also wanted the photos to hint at the fact that this person was no longer in his environment.

My Grandad passed away that summer. The house will soon be destroyed to make way for a new apartment block.
